common_logo2Lawline.com, one of the premier providers of online continuing legal education (CLE) announced it’s new Clean Air Initiative which is aimed at reducing overall waste and increasing energy efficiency and sustainability.

This is certainly a shot in the arm to an industry that is is notoriously slow in  adapting to change or even recognizing the need to do so,  which,  at today’s  speed of change, leave those who don’t,  scrambling to catch up.  Underscoring this is the scant 100+ firms enrolled in the  ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge.

The American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Environment, Energy and Resources (SEER), in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is pleased to present the ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge (Climate Challenge). The Climate Challenge is designed to encourage law offices to take specific steps to conserve energy and resources, as well as reduce emissions of greenhouse gases – which cause global climate change – and other pollutants. The ABA Law Practice Management Section (LPM) is co-sponsoring this initiative.

Noting that “accessing CLE online is by nature environmentally friendly”, Lawline.com  goes on to quantify the savings, ” in 2008, Lawline.com’s customers saved more than 5,000,000 pieces of paper by viewing online videos and reading downloadable written materials. In addition, the attorneys did not have to travel to the programs or purchase CDs or DVDs, which helped reduce their individual carbon footprints.”

David Schnurman, President at Lawline.com proclaims, “…business has a moral responsibility to do whatever it can to help,”  and with the second point of Lawline.com’s three pronged approach, Lawline.com will use its online learning platform to help educate attorneys and law firms on how to run their office in a more environmentally friendly manner, he not only accepts that responsibility, but is prepared to help others rise to the challenge.
